For nurse practitioner clinicals, location is not a convenience preference. It changes whether a placement is even usable. You will spend hundreds of clinical hours on site over multiple terms, so a preceptor an hour each way is sustainable and one three hours away usually is not. Students who line up their own nearby sites avoid punishing travel and tend to build stronger, steadier working relationships with their preceptor, which is exactly why local matters.

There are three real constraints behind the words "near me," and a good local match has to satisfy all of them:

• Drivable. The site has to fit around your life and your other clinical terms without burning you out on the road. Distance is the first thing that quietly sinks a placement.
• In your state's scope. Where you complete your clinical hours has to line up with the state where you intend to be licensed and with how that state treats NP practice and preceptor supervision. State rules vary by track and change over time, so this is checked against your situation, not assumed.
• Approvable by your program. Herzing requires that every site and preceptor be Herzing-approved before you set foot in clinical. A preceptor down the street does you no good if their credentials, specialty, or the site agreement will not clear Herzing's review.
